Spiderwebs

Singapore Penal Code Section 377A

The media, the blogosphere, everywhere has gone rife with talk about the hotly-debated Section 377A of late.

Especially with all that mud-slinging and hate and everything in the Straits Times Forums. While the anti-377A camp had been pretty moderate, the pro-377A zealots have sent in some pretty cruel and shallow letters that do nothing other than to stoke the flames of homophobia in the public.

While the views about 377A are varied and conflicting, one thing is certain. Much of the pro-377A camp isn't debating according to the time-honoured tenets of logic and reason.

Angry Doctor has a running series entitled 'Sick, sick people'
which exposes how illogical many of the pro-377A letters are. From blatant abuse of statistics, to trying to confound the hoi polloi with medical mumbo-jumbo, to abuse of one's authority as a medical professional, etc etc.

The battle's rather absurd, really. Does our press have to stoop that low to even allow such letters to show up on the national newspaper?

Pkchukiss has a short piece on it which would resonate better among the non-medically/statistically inclined.

It's not that I'm some gay rights activist, but blatant abuse of statistics, science, medicine and even logical argument itself is more than enough to make my blood boil.

Speaking of which. Some same gender couples can be so totally kawaii and lovey dovey, you can't possibly have the heart to deny them their happiness!

Spongebob And Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall Of Energy

School was harrowing. Nuff said.

At least the next day's a public holiday!

Dinner with Fadz and Cong at Vivocity Food Republic. The murtabak rocks. For $4.20 (discount when you use a DBS debit card) you get a HUGE serving.

Cakes at Gloria Jean's was bleagh, but their coffee is thick and good.

Crapping about life, the universe, everything, late into the night.

Actually it's more about me rambling on about the superficiality of everything, the subjectiveness of everything we assume to be truth. Even the words I type right here - they probably mean a different thing to you as compared as to me. If that's so, how can I even communicate my thoughts precisely?

==

Poseurs. You get alot of loud, rude, aggressive, showoffy poseurs in Vivocity simply because it's a gateway to Sentosa and it's a new, allegedly hip shopping centre.

Maybe they're just sad people who had given up on life, so they try to create a niche for themselves, enjoying the superficial highs and lows that come with leading the high life.

Maybe, Bill Gates doesn't even need to bother with combing his hair simply cause he has more meaningful things to do than to obsess with superficial beauty.

Doesn't explain Donald Trump's hair though.

I'm sleepy and I'm rambling.

Merry fucking birthday, Singapore. Even the lampposts bearing your colours are crooked.

Set Yourself On Fire

(Cong: Yeah, I admit it. Star's Set Yourself On Fire is actually pretty decent stuff.)

Is it the weather that's searing my flesh away? Or the additional exercise (and consequentially food) that ramped up my metabolism to crazying levels? I'm a walking furnace.

Even the ice cream vendor is making a roaring business.

Set me free! Somebody! Or at least, buy me an air-conditioner!

School. Oh noes, a classmate and I are influencing each other to slack in school!

In lecture, used my notebook to show him my Hong Kong photos, and taught him a trick or two. Result?

A mangled portrait of me with an aerial view of eastern Singapore as the background, and a halo around my head, topped with a shellfish. WTF??

Yay I look thinner now! As compared to 2 months ago heading to Hong Kong.

Well, we all know that lectures and stuff don't hold a candle to actually going to memorise textbooks and notes. So leave home, screw the lectures and clinical attachments and do memory work instead. If that's what the system wants...

Spend the midafternoon acting like cyberterrorists, trying to get online using my notebook using the NUS wifi (the hotspot around NUH was down today) and then trying again and again, on the bus, at the MRT station, just to get osmething emailed to the classmate.

Finally gave up, decided to head home. And just before getting home, I used the Wireless@SG connection at Bishan Interchange, and yay it worked!

Techmology. We can't live without it.

I'm a fighter. And I've got people to clear things up with, skeletons to sweep away, cold wars to break. I don't know how things will turn out, but I guess I've made up my mind on my take of things. I've gotta move on. Move along, move along, just to make it through.

Full steam ahead!

Vertigo

School wasn't too bad today, yay. It's the weekend that refreshes me. Hey at least I did manage to catch up on some sleep the past 2 days!

==

I don't know what possessed me to go ride my bicycle again in 2 consecutive days. Hmmmmm...

1. I wanna be hunky and cute and etc
2. I wanna be fit and feel good about myself
3. The afternoon coffee making me jittery and hyperactive
4. The perfect weather
5. Cute cyclist who waved to me yesterday

==

So off to check the Internet to make sure that I'd be having a smooth and dry ride.

And refilling the water bottles.

And checking the lights, tyres, etc.

And resetting the speedometer.

It's almost as complicated as flying a plane.

==

I've learned a new trick! If you eat a shitload of proteins and carbohydrates (as in, a REAL meal-sized shitload) right after strenuous exercise, you'd be refreshed and less achey. It's so effective, I now can cycle on consecutive days.

I hope this won't make me a lardtub. Yikes!

I'd better cut down on what I eat on non-exercise days.

I'm feeling strangely fine and athletic lately!

Rock the Casbah

A tribute to all turban wearers on Earth. Just because of some bad sheep among ya, you get detained at airports, the paranoid call the police on you and the racist hurl abuses at you. Even Quirrel from Harry Potter wore a turban, and he turned out the bad guy in the end.

You deserve better.

Morning. I made pancakes. Idled. Helped with curry. Idled. Took a nap (cutting down on caffeine means having to pay back ALL that sleep debt). I feel bad about it.

Schoolwork. I just can't get myself to bulldoze through it all. I don't even know where to start.

Sleep is good. And so, sleep, I did.

==

Sunday morning. Woke, quick breakfast, dialled the weather hotline (can't really tell when the sun hasn't full risen yet), then the usual bottle-filling, checking tyres and lights, etc.

Preparing for a bike ride safely is troublesome.

It wasn't too bad a ride, I pushed myself almost as hard as I wanted to. And the traffic was manageable and polite.

Was going downhill on Old Upper Thomson Road when I saw a really cute cyclist who smiled at me! But then, careening downhill along a sharp bend where chickens and monkeys (I kid you not) lurk behind means I had to concentrate on descending, and I didn't manage to wave or smile back. :( I hope I won't regret it. Oh wait, that's my raging hormones speaking.

From now on, I really gotta cycle every Sunday morning. In the hope of meeting that cyclist again.

Today I shall try to study harder! And maybe help my mom with groceries and stuff.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

Consumerist hell! Capitalist damnation!

It must have been the nap on the train that had addled my brains.

For I bought:

The head bops! It's solar powered.

It's supposed to bring good fengshui. There's a few varieties in different colours, for love, health, prosperity and stuff, but I chose this only cause it looks the best.

Packaging and literature.

Comes with a teeny weeny keychain!

The head bops with no problem in daylight, but it's hard to get a placement in my room where the florescent lamp lights it up sufficiently. Still trying out various parts of the room.

Staring at it is as strangely mesmerising as idly staring out of the window on long bus trips or staring at Microsoft Windows installation progress bars!

Say Anything

Thursday. The days blur into another.

It's the lack of sleep I swear. Every morning waking at a crazy hour to rush to school. So. as I was about to say. Coffee is bad mmkay. As if my sleep patterns are not messed up enough, I'm using alot of coffee lately just to get myself through the day. Ouch. And when I can't get my daily fix, I crash and hit an abysmal low.

This morning I tried going without. Doing the cold turkey, deciding once and for all to ditch caffeine.

Well. It didn't work. Too groggy, too tired to face the world. So here I am with another sinister brew of doom. I promise this will be my last today!

==

Lectures were painfully boring. I want out I want out I want out!

At least, I got to meet up with some pals who I hardly meet due to different postings yay. What a pathetic excuse to turn up for a lecture I had barely learnt anything from.

Medical students are way too caught in their own work, their own lives. Especially when I can be playing ouendan in the middle of the lecture theatre and no one notices.

I mean, dude, I'm so obviously in the middle of a totally fun, mesmerising game and they'd rather be snatching last minute glances at their textbooks.

This is the first time I played Ouendan and no one cared to take a second look.

I feel lost. Lost in a community where words like The Simpsons and DS and Foo Fighters are alien vocabulary.

I'm hoping to hell I'm not the only one who feels this way, that somewhere among my classmates, there'd be someone I can identify with.

Hope is important.

==

My classmates say I'm really doing OK in life. And it's not like I have no social life - I'm going out that very evening with a bunch of great friends. And I'm not in any family/social distress anyway.

So why do I feel so down all the time?

==

Out for dinner and ice-cream with secondary school classmates! Again, the usual feelings of inferiority, being with classmates who have progressed way beyond what I had ever achieved, and they're living happy lives and all.

Still, it was fun, catching up with friends and all. And the ice cream from Gelare was good!
